“Satark”: Landslide Prediction System over Western Ghats of India

Mountains on the west coast of India are known as Western Ghat (WG). The WG region has a landslide (LS) susceptibility index four and is prone to LSs in monsoon season due rainfall activity. LS study focuses area between 15.5–20.5° N, 72.5–77.0° E Maharashtra state. A catalog 115 events been prepared by collecting data for 17 years (2000–2016) from various sources. windward leeward side mountains divided into three regions: (1) (72.5–73.4° E) (90 km width), (2) immediate lee (ILS) (73.40–74.20° (80 (3) distant (DLS) (74.2–77.0° (280 width). Center Citizen Science (CCS), Pune, India, developed LS-predicting model “Satark” using satellites, Meteorological Department weather forecasts, radar products, synoptic conditions, atmospheric sounding Wyoming site inferring conditions hydraulic jump WG. validation 5 (2017–2021) showed reasonably good Heidke skill score 0.44. 76.5% success prediction 1 day advance. It first attempt this kind Indian region.
